FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. so WHAT IS this thing "NNRS Abuja?"
A. NNRS Abuja is a major talent show that showcases Nigerian talents to the community. We are a sub-division of Nigerian Next Rising Star, a movement that started in 2010 whose mission is to increase minority visibility in the mainstream media.
Q. Why should I compete?
A. PRIZES AND MASS EXPOSURE. While the prizes and cash are nice to have, our show draws in some of the most prominent industry personalities and a very large diverse crowd. Many of our past competitors have gone on to be very successful and thank NNRS for giving them an extra boost in exposure.
Q. I am interested in auditioning for NNRS, but how does the process work?
A. We ask all prospective performers to register at our website first for auditions. Go to http://www.nigerianextrisingstar.blogspot.com/ and click on "register." After we receive your information, we will call you at least a week before auditions to schedule a specific time and day for you to come in. Once you come in, we will review your information and our staff will watch your act for about 4-6 minutes(depending on your performance type). We will then get back to you during the week to inform you whether you were selected to compete in the competition.
Our audition schedules can get very packed and we must screen every act at their designated times. PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE.
Q. Are auditions open call?
A. We STRONGLY discourage open call auditions due to the volume of contestants that audition. We may not have an open time slot for any open call artists so please register at least 48 hours ahead of the first audition date so we may schedule a time for you.
Q. Do I have to perform an original piece?
A. We at NNRS allow our performs to perform cover songs, remixes, renditions, and original pieces. Our performers will do their own rendition of songs from Diggi Dazz, Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5, and Mary J. Blige. So no, you do not have to perform an original. As long as it's entertaining, it's welcome at our show!
Q. I don't have a "normal" talent. I do something out of the ordinary (i.e. beat box, robot dance, martial arts, etc.) but people find it entertaining. Would I still be able to audition?
A. If it's something you feel is entertaining and valuable, then PLEASE feel welcome to register! We love variety!
Q. I live out of the Audition State area but I still want to audition. It would be a large inconvenience for me to fly to the state for auditions, but I am willing to fly in if picked for the show. Is there any exceptions for
a performer like me?
A. We at NNRS strongly encourage an in-person audition, particularly for those who can reach the Audition State area easily. We like to see all our prospective acts live before selecting them for the show, however, we do understand that certain performers come from way out of state and find it burdensome to come to Audition State. We ask that these performers register on the website, but also leave a comment in the registration form stating that you are not close. We will review your registration forms and contact you regarding alternative methods for you to show us your act. However, we would advise performers that although we will accept videos, demos, press kits, etc. in these cases, they do not have the same effect as an in person audition.
Q. Do I have to be Nigerian to compete?
A. We ask that you or someone in your act have at least one drop of Nigerian blood in them. We don't care if you're 100% or .5% Nigerian, however, Nigerian's long running tradition is to showcase Nigerian talents to the community.
Q. Who will be judging the competitors at the show?
A. We invite an elite panel of industry personalities to judge our competitors and more prominent personalities. NNRS is a great opportunity for our performers to show what they've got to some of the best in the industry. We will announce a definite judging panel.
